2009 This was the year I visited Montpellier (again), Carcassonne, Pont du Gard, Nîmes, Béziers, Narbonne, Maguelone and Carnon in France, London, Dorset and Devon in England, Shanghai and Suzhou in China and Sydney in Australia.
Qantas had changed my flight time from Shanghai to Sydney and had told me that I couldn’t catch the connecting flight to Wellington and would have to spend the day in Sydney. After a long flight this is often very upsetting but fortunately one of my good friends lives quite close to the airport in Sydney and she was kind enough to come and collect me so that I could spend the day with her and her little family. And so it was that on 6 September it was time to leave England yet again and make my way home, via China. Kate and Julie took me to Paddington and I was soon on the plane to Shanghai, lucky enough to score three seats. I actually slept really well and arrived on time. It was very early in the morning and Alwyn had given me very clear instructions to catch the bus into the city. This wasn’t as difficult as I’d feared it might be and he was there at the bus stop to meet me and take me to Anna’s apartment. Continue reading

By the time I got back to London, there wasn’t much time left in England, but there was enough to go and spend the weekend with Suzi in Kent. The journey to Orpington from Charing Cross isn’t long and Suzi met me at the station with the sad news that the car appeared to be overheating. Continue reading
Barely home, I set off by train, via Oxford, the next morning to visit Tony and Janet at their home in Little Compton. We visited Moreton market which is delightful and very much the English town on market day. Continue reading
